Inside the mind of Lance Schonberg

Thorvald’s Wyrd 041

Nine worlds, nine paths, nine days and nights.  What strange synchronicity in the universe so often brought the number nine to the forefront of important events?  Nine jewels, nine stars.

Nine wolves.

Why nine?  Thorvald remembered being taught as a child that nine was a number the gods found pleasing.  With all the things he’d seen since the Mother Night began, he supposed it must be more than just the gods.

The number burned in his mind, searing itself into his world.  But the wolves wasted little time and left him with none, two leaping for him without warning.

  1. I’ve been away far too long. I’ve missed this story, the elegant language, the perfect descriptions. I’m catching up now. 🙂

Love the contemplation of nine and its significance. Important number for many old cultures. Excellent stuff.

    • Thanks! It is amazing when you start reading mythology just how often 9 seems to be important and for how many reasons. It was important to the Vikings, too, and I couldn’t resist sliding it in.
